About this style
Fine Line tattoos at our Newcastle studio
Fine line is the quiet showpiece of modern tattooing. Hairline-thin strokes laid down with single needles or small liner groupings. The result is graphic and elegant when it is done well, and disappointing when it is not. The make-or-break factor on fine line is needle depth: too shallow and the line falls out within a year, too deep and it spreads. Twenty-five years of reading skin makes the difference, especially on tricky placements like ribs and inner forearms. Botanical illustrations, animal line drawings, ornamental dotwork, architectural studies and minimal script all work well as fine line. Hands, feet and fingers are popular but tend to age the worst, and we usually steer first-time clients away from those placements.

FAQ
Common questions about fine line in Newcastle
How long does a fine line tattoo last before it spreads?
A well-tattooed fine line piece holds beautifully for 10 to 15 years. A badly tattooed one starts to blur within five. The two factors that matter most are the artist's needle depth and your aftercare for the first three months.
What placements suit fine line work?
Inner forearm and bicep, calf and thigh, sternum, spine, shoulder blade. Smooth low-friction skin holds fine line best. Hands, feet and fingers are popular but age fastest, so we usually do not recommend them for a first piece.
What kinds of design work as fine line?
Botanical illustrations, animal line drawings, architectural studies, ornamental dotwork, minimal script. The common thread is that every line has to carry weight in the design, because there is no shading to hide behind.
Is fine line good for a first tattoo?
It can be, with the right placement and the right design. We usually steer first-time clients toward outer forearm or upper arm placements where the piece will heal cleanly and hold up for years. Hand and finger fine line is a harder first commitment.
How much do fine line tattoos cost in Newcastle?
Smaller single-session pieces start lower than larger black and grey realism work. Larger fine line panels and back pieces are quoted by session. We always give an honest written quote at consultation.
