Your Tattoo Consultation in Newcastle: What to Expect

The consultation is where a good tattoo is really made. Here is exactly what happens at a Newcastle tattoo consultation and how to prepare.

The consultation is where a good tattoo is actually made. Most of the big decisions, design, placement, sizing, sessions, are settled before the machine ever touches skin. Here is what happens at a tattoo consultation at our tattoo studio in Newcastle, and how to make the most of yours.

Booking the consultation

Call the studio or send us a message on Facebook Messenger with your idea. We will set up a time, in person at the Byker studio or by video call if you are travelling in from outside Newcastle. Consultations are free.

What to bring

  • Reference images. Not stencils to copy. Photos that show the feeling, lighting, subject or composition you are drawn to. Five strong references beat fifty weak ones.
  • Photos of the placement if you cannot show it in person, or photos of any nearby existing tattoos that will need to flow into the new piece.
  • Rough size and budget. You do not need exact measurements. A range is fine.
  • Honesty about timeline. Are you booking around a specific date? Tell us upfront so we can plan sessions properly.

What we will talk through

We will look at your references and ask why each one. We will discuss placement against the natural shape of the body part, because flow matters as much as the design itself. We will talk sizing honestly, if a piece needs to be bigger to hold its detail, we will say so. And we will sketch a rough layout to make sure we are on the same page before you commit.

What you will leave with

  • A clear plan: subject, style, placement, size, sessions.
  • An honest written quote.
  • A booking date if you want to lock it in.
  • A pre-session checklist (we link to it below).

See how to prepare for your tattoo session for the full pre-session routine, and our tattoo aftercare guide for what happens after.

How long the consultation takes

Usually 20 to 40 minutes. Larger custom projects (full sleeves, back pieces) can run longer because there is more to plan.

Deposit and booking

Once the design direction is agreed, we take a deposit to lock the session. The deposit comes off the final price of the tattoo. It covers our design time and the booking slot, and is not refundable if you cancel without notice. This is standard at most reputable studios.
